Can you believe that?

The Canadian artist, Mickey Dagger, is up to no good. With his cover of the underground hit, “I Want To Be a Cowboy” originally by Boys Don’t Cry, he’s overhauled the kitsch of the track with his own dark take. The track features guest vocals by Athena as they duet over ominous, siren-like synths that swirl in the background. “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” is ridiculous and tongue-in-cheek sarcastic, yes, but completely enthralling—and, somehow, that’s just the way it’s supposed to be.

Out today on Samo Records, the single includes remixes from artists and producers who provide new angles to the release. Antoni Maiovvi’s offering amps up the heat with an intense kick while synth maestro, Ortrotasce, reimagines the track with EBM sleaze.  Additionally, the release includes the spacey Thomas Von Party Mix and a remix by Samo Records’ own Facets. Listen below:

All the proceeds will be going to ISKWEU Project an indigenous women’s shelter in Canada.
