Los Angeles Art-Punk CrowJane Reveals her Stop Motion Animated Video for “Terminal Secrets”

Singer, songwriter, and avant-garde art-punk CrowJane reveals the truth that lies beneath the surface in her stop motion animated video for “Terminal Secrets”.

Known for her work in California post-punk and deathrock ensemble Egrets on Ergot, performing as Sally and Nurse Heather in the twisted cabaret of The Deadbeats, plus fronting experimental outfit Prissy Whip, Crowjane is now set to release a solo record this autumn produced by Paul Roessler and recorded at Kitten Robot Studios.

In the song “Terminal Secrets”, where themes are explored akin to if art and artist are one, if the death of the author is real, and do you wear the persona, or does the persona wears you, CrowJane asks:

“What is under the mask of the face that you portray to the world?”

Regarding her inspirations for the song, she further elaborates:

“I wanted to write a song that played around with vocal loops as a rhythm. Lyrically, this song was inspired by the idea that a person can have a smile on their face but be screaming on the inside. What is portrayed on the outside doesn’t always reflect what is actually going on inside a person and within their mind. People can spend so much of their life chasing for money, power, security, validation, fame, ‘success’, and wake up to the realization of the “monster they have become” on their journey to obtain or achieve it.”

As for the video, where a meticulous amount of work went into every second and frame of its handmade Pixel Animation, and series of different transformations,” she continues:

“The director, Jenny Nirgends, and I both wanted to portray transformation through our love of Stop Motion Animation. We were inspired by various different Stop Motion films/ videos like the films of The Brothers Quay and Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’ music video.”

Watch the mesmerizing video, featuring fantastic pixel animation of both Jenny Nirgends and Phoebe Jane Hart, that also includes bodypainting by Ashley Hooker, below:

“Terminal Secrets” is featured on CrowJane’s full-length solo album soon to be released on Kitten Robot Records.
