For those with a particular Gothic Rock sensibility that may involve dusting western apparel with flour, while sipping a snakebite at a pub, or donning simple black leathers and aviators, Del Judas‘ haunting new single “Of Love And Death” is the soundtrack to a lonely drive out west, as the sun is pulled down by the fingertips of ghosts hitchhiking their way across the sprawling interstate.
The song wears its timeless influences on it’s sleeve—lovingly giving nod to crooning melodies of Johnny Cash, Chris Isaak, Peter Murphy, with aural and aesthetic traces of the The Fields of the Nephilim.
Del Judas is the solo project of Charlie Schmid, the former drummer of Tombs and Vaura, and his debut under this moniker—Deity comes out July 13th on Primal Architecture, the label owned by his bandmate Josh Strawn from Vaura, (who also performs in Azar Swan, Vain Warr, and Blacklist—the latter of which strongly a parallels the sound masterfully produced on Schmid’s solo work.
