The Jesus and Mary Chain Will “Hopefully” Release New Record in 2020

The Jesus and Mary Chain have been in the studio working on their next album—the follow-up to 2017’s reunion LP Damage and Joy. The Scottish band revealed their goal was to “hopefully” release the new record sometime later in 2020, and, if failing that, debut the new album the following year.

In an interview from earlier this week, vocalist Jim Reid revealed the album’s progression to Cryptic Rock, and also spoke about the band’s history, reuniting with his brother William in 2007, plus the recording process of their seventh studio album Damage and Joy, which was their first new LP since 1998.

When asked about forthcoming new music, Reid answers:

“We actually have started recording. We recorded a few tracks a couple of months ago and then we took a break. The plan is to try and have a new record out next year. Will it come out? Hopefully, if not it will be 2021, but I think it will be 2020.”

The Mary Chain currently are slated to embark on a tour—just in time for those March and April Skies, performing their 1987 album Darklands in full at shows across the U.K. and Europe.
