John Fryer was looking for a new vocalist to collaborate with after the dissolution of his recent project Dark Drive Clinic. Like a coy would be lover, His friend Pinky Turzo said “her friend” was interested in singing, but John knew that the shy chanteuse was his real Gal Friday. Their new project Silver Ghost Shimmer is a cinematic experience that combines the Fryer’s 4AD legacy with that of his latter reign as premier industrial producer. Yes, this is the guy who honed in the sound of the Cocteau Twins, and most of 4AD’s legendary roster, including being one of the key figure’s behind This Mortal Coil. But—the 4AD stuff is just a small part of a career that saw production of many an artist on Mute, included Depeche Mode, and even having a hand in the sound of NIN’s “Pretty Hate Machine”.
Take a listen to Silver Ghost Shimmer’s debut track “Soft Landing” above—a track slightly reminiscent of the works of Curve, that will may very well transport you to a mechanical Elysium after shuffling off this mortal coil.
