Sigur Rós’ Jónsi enlists Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser for his new single “Cannibal”

Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi has enlisted former Cocteau Twin’s vocalist Elizabeth Fraser for a heavenly duet with the video for “Cannibal”, a single featured on the Icelandic artist’s forthcoming new solo album Shiver.‘

“When Sigur Rós was starting, we were always compared to Cocteau Twins and I really didn’t like that,” Jónsi says. “I hated being compared to anybody. Then I got really into Cocteau Twins like two or three years ago. They’re so good. I understood the comparison then.”

The video for Cannibal is a gossamer pole dance choreographed in slow-motion, enveloped in shades of wintry white, and artistically directed by both Jónsi and Giovanni Ribisi.

The video premiere for “Cannibal” also follows the unveiling of  Jónsi’s recent singles “Exhale” and “Swill”.

Shiver is set for release on October 2nd via Krunk, and is the first full studio follow-up to Jónsi’s acclaimed 2010 solo debut Go, and his first release since 2018’s collection of demos and rarities, Frakkur.

Meanwhile, “Cannibal” is the second collaboration from the elusive Fraser in recent months, as last December she joined English Folk singer Sam Lee for a rendition of the traditional song “The Moon Shines Bright”, which featured on his 2020 album Old Wow.
