One of the most versatile and talented of the current wave of post-punk bands, North Carolina’s Secret Shame, have unveiled side two to their brand new A-side single “Dissolve” / “Pure”.
Previously, Secret Shame earned our Editor in Chief’s number one spot for the best album of 2019—and later finally issued their debut album on vinyl, along with a spectacular remix LP, which also includes a bewitching new version of their Dark Synthetics’s first single “Dark”.
Now, with “Pure”, Secret Shame weaves a sorrowful daydream whose light shimmers in a dark room, with hopeful moments shining like a door left ever so slightly ajar, all the while conjuring aural allusions to a certain Crawley band’s mid 80s albums such The Head on the Door, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, and Distigration, with sombre lyrics that linger on the heart like a tearful goodbye.
As Lena Machina explains:
“Sometimes you would give everything to help someone. Unfortunately, most of the time they don’t want your help, or their own.”
Listen to “Pure” below:
The “Dissolve” and “Pure” A-Side was recorded in November of 2019 at The Ward in Richmond, VA. This self-released 7” will be available on June 5th, 2020.
