San Diego post-punk/border goth band The Slashes have a valentine for lovebirds and lovelorn alike: a new single called “Valentine Slip”.

The raw, emotive lyrics, a mix of post-punk and New Romantic styles, revolve around the acceptance of our true nature: embracing the duality of the good and bad. One side has to win eventually, and “give in to his true self,” confides vocalist Esteban Rene. Sometimes we need to work on ourselves first – and know who we truly are before welcoming in any other valentines. In the vein of The Smiths, The Psychedelic Furs, and a touch of The Jam, “Valentine Slip” is a pleasant journey into our own psyches, facilitating healing within.

Listen below:

Band members include Rene (vocals/guitar), Beto Bautista (bass), and Carlos Robles (drums). They released their self-titled debut album in 2015, produced by Alan Sanderson (The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello).

In 2020 they returned to Singing Serpent Studio with Ben Moore for the anticipated second record, Embalmers Blush. Released on all digital platforms and limited 12” vinyl. Valentine Slip is out now.
