San Diego post-punk/border goth band The Slashes have a valentine for lovebirds and lovelorn alike: a new single called “Valentine Slip”.
The raw, emotive lyrics, a mix of post-punk and New Romantic styles, revolve around the acceptance of our true nature: embracing the duality of the good and bad. One side has to win eventually, and “give in to his true self,” confides vocalist Esteban Rene. Sometimes we need to work on ourselves first – and know who we truly are before welcoming in any other valentines. In the vein of The Smiths, The Psychedelic Furs, and a touch of The Jam, “Valentine Slip” is a pleasant journey into our own psyches, facilitating healing within.
