“WE WILL BE PERFORMING SONGS FROM A NEW ALBUM WHEN WE NEXT PLAY… OR WE WON’T BE PLAYING AT ALL!”
The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, and so is Robert Smith….in his trademark CAPS LOCK, no less!
The Cure have big plans for 2022, including a tour and the long-awaited new album, which according to a press release is a lengthy record clocking in at 67 minutes, around the same runtime of both Disintegration and Wish.
Smith took to social media to boldly answer a few queries about The Cure’s upcoming tour schedule, namely additions to the tour itinerary, his eagerness to play live once again, and introducing new songs from the upcoming album on the tour.
The Cure frontman announced that the band will also “play a lot of other shows in places that are not Europe,” but specific dates are still forthcoming. UK fans will be chuffed to know that in December, the band has added a third night at London’s SSE Arena at Wembley, wrapping up the European leg of the tour.
IN ANSWER: YES, WE WILL BE PLAYING A LOT OF OTHER SHOWS IN PLACES THAT ARE NOT EUROPE… BUT THERE DOESN’T SEEM MUCH POINT ANNOUNCING ANY MORE THAN THAT UNTIL WE ANNOUNCE ACTUAL DATES… WHICH WILL BE VERY SOON X

After addressing those concerns about when The Cure would announce tour dates for the rest of the world, such as North America, Smith then went on to clarify that there will, in fact, be no new tour if there is no new album, declaring:
“WE WILL BE PERFORMING SONGS FROM A NEW ALBUM WHEN WE NEXT PLAY… OR WE WON’T BE PLAYING AT ALL! AND I REALLY WANT TO PLAY… SO THAT MEANS… X”
He then enthusiastically added:
“…IT MEANS MY DESIRE TO RELEASE A NEW ALBUM IS OVERWHELMING! X”
