Texas electro-industrial veterans Mentallo & The Fixer are returning to one of the defining records in their catalog with a newly remastered edition of Where Angels Fear To Tread, due digitally October 16 through Re:Mission Entertainment, followed by its first-ever vinyl pressing on November 20.
Originally released by Zoth Ommog in Europe in 1994 and licensed by Metropolis Records for North America the following year, Where Angels Fear To Tread was the third full-length from brothers Gary and Dwayne Dassing, following No Rest For The Wicked and Revelations 23. Its 13-track original sequence includes enduring club staples Decomposed, Sacrilege, and Atom Smasher, songs that helped cement the duo’s place in the harsher, more rhythmically adventurous wing of 1990s electro-industrial music. Alfa Matrix later revisited the album as part of its 2014 Zothera CD box set, though that edition featured new artwork.
For the 2026 edition, Jeff Mortimer at JM Mastering has prepared a fresh remaster for vinyl and digital, while Nathan Winter of Industriarts restored the original artwork. The physical edition expands the album to 15 tracks with two remixes and arrives as a 2LP gatefold pressed on yellow and red inverted splatter vinyl, limited to 250 copies worldwide. The gatefold also includes complete lyrics and new commentary from Gary Dassing on the making of the record.
The album came together through a home-recording process that now feels almost archaeological in its limitations, with the brothers working from cassette masters while sequencing their synthesizers by computer and stretching a modest setup as far as it could go.
“All master recordings at this time were recorded straight to cassette, believe it or not,” says Gary Dassing. “No multi track recording was involved. All vocals were recorded live as the computer sequencer would run the synthesizers. Crazy to think about it, the art of home recording and how far technology has come. ‘Look ma, no equipment necessary! Just some software and a laptop!’ Dwayne and I were sort of flying blind at the time. Everything was a learning experience, and a costly one. New tech in those years was extremely expensive, so you had to be dedicated. Hell, I remember when Dwayne and I lived off bean and cheese tacos just to get that next piece of gear. We were addicted.”
The digital edition goes deeper into the archive with seven remixes and 20 tracks in total. It is available to pre-order now through Bandcamp ahead of its October 16 release across streaming platforms, while the vinyl edition is expected to ship November 20.
The reissue continues Re Entertainment’s ongoing work with the Mentallo & The Fixer catalogue, following remastered editions of No Rest For The Wicked, Vengeance Is Mine, and Love Is the Law, alongside renewed attention to related projects Reign of Roses and Kitty Kosmonaut.
