The Cure‘s Robert Smith is set to curate the 25th edition of Meltdown, the UK’s longest running artist-curated music festival.

Smith is joining the ranks of previous curators of the Southbank; luminaries such as Patti Smith, David Byrne, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker and more who helmed the festival during previous editions.

“I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown Festival”, Smith said in an official statement featured on Meltdown’s Official website.

“More than 30 of my all time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this 10-night extravaganza at London’s Southbank Centre is the must-see event of the summer!”

The full-line-up of artists for Meltdown Festival will be revealed in March.

Meanwhile Robert Smith is celebrating The Cure’s 40th anniversary with a special concert in London this July with special guests Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, Slowdive, and The Twilight Sad.
