OMD Announce 40th “Souvenir” Anniversary Tour

Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a greatest hits tour launching in the UK and Europe. The tour is named “Souvenir – OMD 40 Years”, named so after the song from their 1981 LP Architecture & Morality.

OMD, formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and keyboardist Paul Humphreys, OMD was heavily influenced by Kraftwerk, and got their first big break from Gary Numan, whom they opened for during their first UK tour.

OMD played their first gigs at Erics in Liverpool, one of which was support for Joy Division and Cabaret Voltaire, leading to their work with Tony Wilson, and Martin Hannett of Factory Records.

Through showing their love for their electronic music heroes, OMD would quickly inspire others explore the depths of synthesizer based music—in particular their first single “Electricity”, released on May 21, 1979.

On this 40th Anniversary tour, McCluskey, and Humphreys are joined by both Martin Cooper, who joined the band in 1980, and Stuart Kershaw who started working with the band in 1991, the electro-pioneers have promised to play all of their greatest hits, as well as some exciting, rare material from their early days.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday 14 March 2019.

Go to omd.uk.com for more ticket information.

Speaking of souvenirs, the tour will offer VIP packages that include:
  • access to the soundcheck
  • a year’s membership to the OMD Access All Areas app
  • a signed setlist
  • an exclusive t-shirt
  • a Souvenir ticket
  • a VIP laminate pass

No messages or telegraphs yet on North American dates.
