Los Angeles Darkwave Artist Mareux Unveils “Lovers From the Past” — Title Track From Debut Album

It’s simple

You’re who I live for

Though you don’t seem to think

We’re good enough for you

Critically acclaimed Los Angeles darkwave artist Mareux (aka musician and producer Aryan Ashtiani) announces a new album, Lovers From The Past, set for release on May 5, 2023, via Warner Records/Revolution Records. The hypnotic title track accompanying this proclamation fuses gritty, sinister vocals, a thumping bassline, and an unsettling oeuvre, perfect as an after-dark anthem of unrequited yearning and the ghosts of romantic past memories. It’s a song of being haunted by a lost love, and the inability to move forward. The mood is pure film noir, trudging through the sludge of a few too many drinks at the bar, trying to forget. The eerie, mournful synth background is reminiscent of the riff from The Smiths’ “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”…paired with the general malaise of some of the best of Molchat Doma.

Having helped spark a resurgence of interest in post-punk and darkwave among a new generation online, Mareux finds himself at the forefront of the latest innovative strain of goth music. “I want to become a gateway to older subcultural genres for people who are just discovering alternative music today,” he declares.

Mareux went viral in 2021 with his cover of The Cure’s “The Perfect Girl.” Last month, he set the stage for this season with Night Vision,a song that followed the stunning duet “Glass” with King Woman.

This April, Mareux is set to take the stage at both weekends of Coachella. Following the release of “Lovers From The Past,” the darkwave artist will be releasing a string of singles leading up to a May album and tour. In support of the album, Mareux will also launch an extensive headlining global tour. The tour will kick off in May following his appearance at Coachella and will make stops in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Warsaw, Berlin, and more.
