Canadian Industrial EBM virtuoso Rhys Fulber unquestionably occupies a venerable place among the pantheon of premier electronic music producers. His journey began in his teenage years with Front Line Assembly, then developed through the genre-defying project Delerium, leading him to his current solo ventures. With his musical signatures released under the umbrellas of industrial techno-focused labels such as aufnahme + wiedergabe and Sonic Groove, Fulber has firmly carved his name into the very core of underground electronic dance music. A catalogue stretching over an impressive three decades in the industry is an undeniable testament to his lasting influence.
As the pandemic lockdown cast its shadow, Fulber ventured into a personal creative journey, culminating in the self-release of his Brutal Nature LP. A shift in geography played muse, with Fulber leaving behind the concrete behemoth of Los Angeles to embrace the verdant arms of his home city, Vancouver. This voyage inspired the birth of Brutal Nature – an album wherein one can palpably sense the intimacy of its conception.
Brutal Nature Redux unleashes the next chapter of Fulber’s Brutal Nature album and artistic saga, adorned with remixes from an artfully chosen array of talents. This first offering from this remix collection is a reinterpretation of “Pyrrhic Act” by Qual, who extracts strands from Fulber’s historical engagement with EBM and brings them to the limelight. The outcome is a perilous groove that’s a tantalizing fusion of retro and cutting-edge, the tempo decelerated to allow the tension to permeate more heavily into the ambiance.
Listen to the ominous fusion of darkwave and EBM in the Qual Remix of “Pyrrhic Act” below:
Brutal Nature Redux is out in July of 2023 and also features remixes from Years of Denial, Sarin, Orphx, and more!
