LA-based artist Kid Moxie, AKA Elena Charbila, is an empyreal siren that has collaborated with the like of Gaslamp Killer and most famously with Angelo Badalamenti for the rerecorded orchestrated version of the song “Mysteries of Love” from David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, a track which eventually gave birth to the music of Twin Peaks.
Now, Kid Moxie has unveiled her silky and ethereal synth-infused version of Alphaville’s classic new-wave hit “Big In Japan”, transforming the song into a dreamy synthwave incursion of surreal nostalgia.
The cover of the 80s classic is the first single taken from the soundtrack to the dark indie thriller Not To Be Unpleasant, But We Need To Have A Serious Talk, a film directed by Giorgos Georgopoulos.
Lakeshore Records will release the song digitally on December 6. The full album will be available on January 24.
Not To Be Unpleasant, But We Need To Have A Serious Talk is a surreal Greek film seemingly combining plot elements of High Fidelity, and Mauvais Sang. Watch the trailer below from the Austin Film Festival.
