Berlin Post-Punk Outfit Lobsterbomb Debuts Video for “Dragonfly”

Berlin post-punk outfit Lobsterbomb have announced the release of their fifth single, “Dragonfly,” from their upcoming debut album Look Out, due out on the 21st of July 2023 via Duchess Box Records. Lobsterbomb is comprised of Nico Rosch, Vik Chi, and Crayon Jones, who joined forces during the pandemic in 2020 after immigrating to Berlin looking for the same escape with the same wanderlust.

Dragonfly hits all the right chords to be a breakthrough single whilst still retaining their edge and everything that has made them unique. Navigating the realms of personal reflection, yearning for structural evolution, and self-expansion, the band employs a whirlwind of dynamic, boisterous, and infectious indie-garage rock aesthetics with this deceptively effervescent tune, stimulating a deeper exploration of the theme.

With fervent vocal delivery and introspective hooks reminiscent of Berlin, X, the Bangles, and Missing Persons, Lobsterbomb’s lyrics artfully blend apprehension and vexation with an uplifting aspiration to capture the essence of the present – the deeper message is to embrace the potential for transformative progress – even if the desired outcome proves futile.

“There is a fight between the post-punky coldness of the music and the emotion in Nico’s voice which helps to reflect the lyrics,” muses Crayon Jones, the British member of the band. “There isn’t really a resolution; neither side wins and the happy-ever-after never arrives.”

The video, directed by Andie Riekstina, takes us on a kaleidoscopic journey through various landscapes, superimposed over the band, transcending time with its charming retro aesthetic.

Lobsterbomb’s highly anticipated debut record, “Look Out,” is set to grace the world on July 21st, 2023, with a special limited edition red vinyl pressing available for pre-order here. Drawing inspiration from their environment, the band meticulously crafted this auditory masterpiece within their Berlin-based Neukölln rehearsal space over an arduous yet rewarding twelve-month period.

“After months of writing, recording, and editing, we’re so excited to finally release our debut album this year,” says Rosch. “It’s a beautifully rough rollercoaster ride through our subconscious minds.”

“With so much effort and emotion going into this album, it feels like giving birth to a big square baby,” adds Chi.

2022 was a big year for the band, who signed their album deal with Duchess Box, and sharing stages all over Germany with the likes of Pabst, ITCHY, Sofia Portanet, and a performance at Synästhesie Festival.

Lobsterbomb are touring Germany throughout 2023.
