Watch the video for this beautiful cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong” by Anne Marie Almedal, a Norwegian musician who was the lead singer of the band Velvet Belly.
The Laukli & Laukli directed video is a stark and black and white, reflecting the stripped down and minimalistic rendition of the classic Cure single culled from their masterwork Disintegration. Not since Tori Amos covered the song live during the mid 90’s have we received a version like this.
If that Velvet Belly rings a bell, it is because the band’s name was taken from the This Mortal Coil song from the 4AD project’s second album Filigree & Shadow.
Anne Marie Almedal’s cover of “Lovesong” is taken from her new album Lightshadow.
