Few bands weather the decades with the quiet, unshakable force of The Church. Five decades deep, and still they smoulder—fresh from the twin triumphs of The Hypnogogue (2023) and Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars (2024), the antipodean dream merchants now plot their next pilgrimage: The Singles tour.
Beginning July 15 in Phoenix and looping the North American continent: Los Angeles, Vancouver, Chicago, New York – the quartet will unfurl their sprawling catalogue like an altar of obsessions, hits, and hidden gems.
Thirty-seven albums strong, the setlist spans swooning classics like The Unguarded Moment and Tantalized, the hypnotic shimmer of Ripple and Metropolis, through to their eternal anthems Reptile and Under the Milky Way. Yet, this is no mere nostalgia trip. The Church thrive in the tension between past and present, each performance a prism through which decades of devotion refract.
“The Church are very much looking forward to returning to the USA and doing the singles show which we’ve never done before: a career retrospective spanning 45 years of tunes!” says Steve Kilbey.
The Church continues to sculpt their cinematic signature blend of indie rock, glittering post-punk, icy dreampop, and cosmic post-rock with an intrepid spirit, never merely retracing their prior steps. The ensemble, as it stands today, is completed with the well-versed partnership of Tim Powles; guitarist Ian Haug, previously from Powderfinger, who integrated into the band in 2013, and Jeffrey Cain of Remy Zero, a seasoned touring multi-instrumentalist who has since become a full-time component of The Church, following Peter Koppes’ departure in early 2020.
The Church further enhanced their dynamic lineup with the enlistment of Ashley Naylor, a mainstay of Paul Kelly’s touring ensemble and recognized as one of Australia’s most respected and adept guitarists with his affiliations to Even, The Grapes, and The Stems.
VIP packages will be available at the band’s nightfriends for the first 24 hours of presales beginning March 19th before being made available to the general public here. For tickets, go here.
