This June The B-52s are set to release an expanded 30th-anniversary reissue of their fifth studio LP Cosmic Thing, an album that launched the band into stardom reaching the top 5 on the Billboard album charts.
Cosmic Thing, released on June 27th, 1989, was a comeback album followed the passing of guitarist Ricky Wilson (brother of vocalist Cindy) of complications related to AIDS while the band was in the process of releasing their 4th record Bouncing Off the Satellites.
During this time band’s drummer, Keith Strickland had to perfect his taking over guitar duties, and ultimately recreating Wilson’s signature style.
Cosmic Thing became a huge success due to the popularity of “Love Shack”, considered to the band’s signature song, and “Deadbeat Club” both rising to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
“Roam” also reached N0.3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1990, spending a total of 20 weeks on the chart, and is frequently used in films, trailers, and television commercials.
The 30th-anniversary edition of Cosmic Thing is due out June 28 on Rhino/Warner Bros. The 2CD set, which is also to be released digitally, will include a 15-songs on the first disc, comprised of the complete remastered album plus five remixes, and the second disc features a recording of the band’s Aug. 4, 1990, concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas.
