“What is original birth? Who forms?”
According to Carl Jung’s theories, the collective unconscious serves as a shared reservoir of knowledge and imagery, innate to every individual from birth and common to all humans. This shared mental repository is thought to stem from the ancestral experiences of our species. A traumatic event can have a profound and immediate impact on a person, both physically and emotionally, with a wide array of manifestations. Although individuals might not be consciously aware of the thoughts and images within their collective unconscious, it is posited that during periods of crisis or stress, the psyche can tap into and utilize this wealth of knowledge and imagery.
Techno outfit Cyberplasm has taken a new direction with their music, moving away from traditional punk instrumentation and exploring a sound that blends elements of techno and punk. Despite the absence of guitars, the band still manages to convey a sense of chaos and political commentary through their lyrics and the use of discordant noise. Their mesmerizing – and bizarre – new offering, a 3D video for their intense track, Autogenesis, is an ethereal, pulsing, machine-driven track with a very human message. The video, animated by Xtine, is an intense journey through the liminal space of the spirit world.
“When you experience trauma you don’t feel safe in your body, but your body is literally the place you feel the most joy and sense of presence,” they explain. “It’s such a painful complication that proves to make one feel so deeply isolated, but you can find ways in your personal journey to free the body from the “mind.”
The mind, they assert, is created by society and the ‘colonial technology’ of sadistic trauma.
“The most beautiful thing though about this existence is that there are other layers of connection and experience outside of this traumatic imprinting and pain,” they continue. “When you begin the process of being with yourself and your feelings with a sense of compassion, the nervous system begins to shift. It can feel so tiring and difficult to figure out at times, but you can find that there are forms of being, seeing and feeling that completely regenerate the mind and then the body (autogenesis).”
