Synthwave Duo Blue Velvet Unveil Debut Album

Peruvian synth band Blue Velvet have just released their debut, In Event of Moon Disaster, via Buh Records. The album dropped on streaming and digital purchasing platforms on Friday, 9/14, but a vinyl edition will also be available in late November.

Blue Velvet’s sound is a delicate blend of dark synth overtones and hazy atmosphere, recalling bands like The Chromatics, Deux, and Linear Movement to mind. Noelia Cabrera’s vocals sway delicately between detached spoken-word mantras and hazy, ethereal textures, floating delicately above Antonio Ballester’s programming and synth work. Standout tracks on the record include the late night fever-dream “Under Your Spell,” the deeply nightmarish “Ghost Breath,” and lead single “A Strange Face In the Mirror,” which also appears on the album in remixed form by album producer and Peruvian shoegaze legend Mario Mendoza (Silvania/Cielo).
