Officials in Austin have declared that the South by Southwest Arts and Music Festival, which was to occur between March 13 to March 22nd, has been cancelled over virus fears of coronavirus, or COVID-19
The annual tech, music, and film convention was scheduled to occur across a broad number of venues in the Texas capital city over the latter half of the month, yet in an unprecedented move, and for the first it the event’s 34-year history, the festival has been cancelled outright.
“Based on the recommendation of our public health officer and our director of public health . . . I’ve gone ahead and declared a local disaster in the city and associated with that, have issued an order that effectively cancels SXSW” stated Austin Mayor Steve Adler at a press conference this afternoon.
Some of the SXSW exhibitions may still be going on, possibly not under the official SXSW banner. As far as post-punk acts are concerned, Negative Gain is still doing its showcase as scheduled with Twin Tribes, Curse Mackey, Wire Spine, and more.
The new venue info for the Negative Gain showcase will be updated shortly.
