Swedish Post-Punk Act Sjöblom Unveils Wintry Video for “Telephone”

Sweden’s Johan Sjöblom Eliot (The Exploding Boy), the mastermind behind the project SJÖBLOM, announces a new single called “Telephone”, off the outfit’s upcoming ten-track sophomore album, Demons.

The thrilling uptempo song features formidable songwriting skills, danceable grooves, and guitars for post-punk clubs around the globe. With nods to classic post-punk/goth sound borrowing elements from Clan of Xymox and Joy Division, the melancholic track is at once gloomy and danceable. The original version is accompanied by four remixes from Clan Of Xymox, Kiss Of The Whip, Priest and The Wide Eye. Producer Jon Bordon (Nicole Sabouné, Agent Side Grinder) refined the material at the Joniverse Studios in Stockholm.

“I can’t remember at all when I made this song,” muses Eliot. “It’s not old and not new. But I remember the situation sitting alone at home, feeling a bit useless and sad. Why would someone call me?”

The video, directed by Andreas Hillerborg, is a mournful, atmospheric glimpse at miscommunication and blockage. The stylistic choices are a striking homage to the films of Anton Corbijn, with stark wintry landscapes and a surrealist theatricality.

“We wanted the video to look like the original cover picture of Joy Division’s “Atmosphere”, and it was found at Ekerö, outside Stockholm in Sweden. It was very freezing and snowy, but also magical and some kind of Game Of Thrones feeling all over it,” says Eliot.

Demons will be released on CD in a six-panel digipak via Reptile Music, on black vinyl with printed inner sleeve, and on all digital platforms. You can order it here.
