Swansea Indie-Punk act Hot Mass Debut Video for “A Literal Century”

Swansea’s Hot Mass throw their eclectic music tastes into the melting pot to cook up melodic, grunge-fuelled, indie-popping, jaw-dropping, punk bangers awash with defiant, upbeat lyrics. Their latest offering is A Literal Century, off their sophomore album Happy, Smiling and Living the Dream (Brassneck Records/This Charming Man Records).

In this track, we hear the unmistakable sounds of early college rock, 90’s shoegaze, grunge, and UK punk as the band toys with themes of joy and melancholy. Their lyrics take a satirical, questioning, and sometimes apathetic stance on world affairs and modern lifestyles. The lyric video, filmed by Jono Atkinson with animations by Rhys Jenkins, depicts a child on a scooter zipping along the coast, wearing a mask. The effect is unsettling; evoking the mysterious photography of Ralph Eugene Meatyard.

Hot Mass released their debut record Nervous Tensions in 2016, filled to the brim with raw energy and young ideas. In the wake of this, they embarked on successful tours around the UK and Europe supporting bands such as The Menzingers, Iron Chic, Toys that Kill, and The Bouncing Souls.
