Solveig Matthildur Unveils the Video for her Morning Star Ballad “Venus”

Kælan Mikla synth arranger and backing vocalist Sólveig Matthildur has pulled yet another sorrowful song into her orbit, with the mournful morning star ballad “Venus”, a song about a lost love that still passes in transit over a heart that just can’t let go.

The new single is the latest in a series of songs about love and heartache this year, beginning with her charming manifesto “Politician of Love”, and followed by sorrowful serenade “Window”, and the bittersweet “Last Date”.

Venus is a soaring and luminous melody, and one of Solveig’s best solo works yet.  With lyrics “I’m the salt in the water, I’m the salt in your tears” alluding to the Birth of Venus, the subject of Sandro Botticelli’s masterpiece, and such lines as “setting the west, just after dusk or rising in the east, a bit before dawn” referring to the bright celestial body in the sky, “Venus” is a song steeped in heartfelt metaphor.

Watch the video for “Venus” below:

“Venus” was mixed and co-produced by Baldur Hjörleifsson, and the video and artwork are once again courtesy of Solveig’s longtime collaborators, Dean Kemball and Kinnat Sóley.

“Venus” is out now via Artoffact Records.

Find it on both Bandcamp, and Spotify.
