If Depeche Mode circa Black Celebration through Violator were to be shaken in chrome tumbler and poured over the icy dark synthwave sequences so in vogue these days, you would get something along the same tangential path that Philadelphia based singer/songwriter Kyle Kimball has taken on Portrait in Silver, his fourth LP under the guise of Night Sins.
After two years of silence, Kimball has emerged from the haunted web spun corners of Eldritchian gothic rock, stepped in his car, hopped on I-95, and driven the music into a world soaked in danceable neon hues, as seen previously with the album’s lead single “Annihilator”, and its accompanying video, as well as the dark and brooding followup track “Two Headed Dream”.
