New Wave Artist The Singularity Debuts Video for Heartbreaking Synthpop Single “Fall Apart”

In a poignant lyrical journey, the gut-wrenching brand-new single “Fall Apart” from The Singularity (aka polymath Julian Shah-Tayler) paints a canvas of profound heartbreak and emotional desolation. The imagery of disintegration and dissolution permeates as hopes shatter and aspirations wither in the unforgiving light of betrayal and loss. The poignant repetition underscores a palpable agony as dreams crumble, words fade, and a once-unwavering connection disbands. Amidst this profound emptiness and loss, a haunting fixation on a pair of captivating eyes emerges, suggesting both a source of sorrow and an object of yearning. Shah-Tayler confronts an inescapable truth through this rending narrative: the disintegration of what was once cherished and sacred.

Fall Apart” is the song I wish I’d never had to write,” Julian Shah-Tayler admits. “It’s the #heartbreaksong. It comes as the sad and (perhaps sadly inevitable) final gasp of the great love that spawned the Elysium album, which featured David J (Bauhaus) and MGT (Tricky). The Love disintegrated, the heart shattered and the pieces scattered. This is an attempt at catharsis through art.”

With a vividly AI-conjured visual accompaniment for the track, he takes the art spirit quite literally by invoking the spirit of Alphonse Mucha’s enchanting Art Nouveau illustrations, contemporaneously blending in the emotive undertones of modern-day animé. The viewer is effortlessly ushered through a convoluted dream realm within the recesses of the mind, where echoes of a once-cherished romance, now tainted, come forth.

Julian Shah-Tayler first entered the world in Leeds, England. After receiving his education at Hogwarts (“Truly!” he jests) he went on to complete philosophy studies at York University. Julian relocated to London, embracing the dual roles of singer and songwriter. His classical foundation on the piano harmoniously intertwined with his self-acquired guitar skills. Though early record agreements with Alan McGee remained unfulfilled, Julian found his niche with electroclash group, Whitey, contributing as a co-writer and guitarist. Many of these compositions echoed with the authenticity of his home-based studio.

Julian’s transatlantic move to Los Angeles marked a new chapter, bringing with it fruitful licensing opportunities in American television and cinema.

The luminaries with whom Shah-Tayler has partnered speaks to the breadth of his artistry: from Mike Garson, renowned for his work with David Bowie, to the ethereal Lana Del Rey, the enigmatic Joaquin Phoenix, and others such as Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama and Shakespear’s Sister fame. His collaborations span to Wayne Hussey, Beauty In Chaos, David J, Carmine Rojas, Alain Whyte, and Robert Margouleff.

2023 saw him at the helm of producing the Aladdin Sane 50th-anniversary tribute album, “Forget that I’m 50.” Noteworthy guest artists on this venture include Gene Loves Jezebel, Human Drama, and Beck Black.

Beyond music, Julian’s imprint on film and television is also significant. His contributions — whether as a composer, writer, or performer — have graced award-winning productions like Actors On Actors, Clash of The Cover Bands, Plush, and Riot On Redchurch Street.

Julian Shah-Tayler also won a Golden Trailer award for his work with Lana Del Rey and Daisy O’Dell co-arranging Once Upon A Dream for Disney’s “Maleficent” trailer, which you can see below:

A testament to his commitment to community, Julian co-initiated the charity Art Angeles, a noble venture to impart musical education to the underserved youth of Watts.
