Ministry | The Land of Rape and Honey

On October 11th, 1988 Ministry released their 3rd studio album The Land of Rape and Honey—their first album to develop their now trademark industrial-rock style.  The album title comes from the slogan of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, whose motto is “The Land of Rape and Honey”, because the local economy was based on the agricultural products rapeseed and honey.  The band chose the name after seeing the slogan on a souvenir mug.

Rapeseed oil is now often branded as “Canola Oil” in order to detract from any negative connotations from the word rapeseed.

The album featured 3 singles, the first single, “Stigmata” was featured in Richard Stanley‘s 1990 science fiction thriller Hardwareand the other two singles were—Flashback, and the title track The Land of Rape and Honey.

Watch an interview with Ministry alumni Chris Connelly discussing the 30th Anniversary of the album.
