Marlene Marder of LiliPUT/Kleenex has passed away

[dropcap]Marlene[/dropcap] Marder, guitarist for the Swiss all-female post-punk group LiLiPUT (originally calling themselves Kleenex) has passed away. Her death was announced by her American label, Kill Rock Stars, who has stated she had died this past Sunday.

Kleenex had formed in Zurich during 1978.  and were one of the first bands to release music through Rough Trade. After putting out a few singles and 1978’s Kleenex EP, they were forced to change their name to LiLiPUT due to the inevitable legal action from the tissue company owning the copyright “Kleenex”. The band had released two albums via Rough Trade before breaking up in 1983.
