Los Angeles chanteuse Taleen Kali’s Covered EP (Dum Dum Records) twists beloved classics into something darker, sharper, untamed. Fierce, femme vocals rise and fall, slipping between fragility and fire, casting light and shadow in equal measure. Heavy breakbeats crash like distant thunder, guitars swirl like smoke, bending each familiar melody into something spectral, something reborn. The spirit of Wisp, Tamaryn, Lush, L.A. Witch, Ringo Deathstarr, Cocteau Twins, Curve, Chapterhouse, and Siouxsie and the Banshees lingers in every note.
On Saturday, February 8th, The Love Song Bar in Los Angeles hosts the album’s release party, paired with a Bandcamp online listening event before the band heads to SXSW. Admission is free for those affected by the L.A. wildfires, while 25% of regular tickets aid displaced families. Exclusive test pressings and rarities will be sold, every cent donated. The music is a force, the night a celebration of resilience, the sound a siren call.

Taleen Kali, best known as the frontwoman of the “flower punk” band TÜLIPS, flickers like a neon beacon cutting through the haze of the night. Her sound threads her Armenian roots with Lebanese and Ethiopian rhythms while fusing them with the raw spirit of modern subcultures.
Beyond her musical endeavors, Taleen Kali is the driving force behind the avant-garde Dum Dum Records and the esteemed DUM DUM Zine, platforms that transcend the mere production of music and literature. Kali delves into the realm of the mystical, embracing her role as a sound healer. Through her guided group meditations, she offers a sanctuary for the soul, a space where the frenetic energy of the city gives way to serene introspection. In 2021, she briefly veered from her established path of psychedelic punk to explore the tranquil waters of sound healing with her album Songs For Meditation, serving as a bridge between the worlds of sonic rebellion and meditative harmony.
