Newly-minted Los Angeles-based post-punk band Deceits have announced their second single “Failures”. The track was written during a moment of extreme mental reflection during quarantine. While the overall emotions of the songs are dwelling in the realm of melancholy, the line “the bliss of failure” serves as a reminder that sometimes laughter is the best strategy.
“Failures was written as a way to just dance and laugh at the anxieties and negative emotions we’re dealing with,” says the band. “We had been going through personal issues, but knew we had to do something to ease our minds and release our emotions through sound.”
The track features blistering guitar work, frenetic vocals and a dollop of distortion, immediately bringing to mind The Cure. Sad Lovers & Giants, and Glorious Din also come through; Deceits’ sound also can be likened to more modern bands such as Human Tetris, Soviet Soviet, and Twin Tribes. Failures dwells in that sweet spot between gothic and alternative, bridging genres as well as emotion.

The single also includes an alternate demo performance and DIY mix of Deceits’ first single, “Every Promise”.
