Listen to the Melancholy Post-Punk and Gothic Rock of Lovesick Plaything’s Self Titled Debut Album

We’ll return to dust

Awakening to an end

To a dreadful, unending beauty

In the mouth of oblivion

Lovesick Plaything manifests as a bare and engulfing journey through the realms of post-punk, alternative, and gothic melodies. Its creator is none other than Dario Derna, widely acclaimed as Numinas, now echoing his virtuosity from the streets of London in a bold diversion from his acclaimed endeavours within the black, death, and doom metal panoramas. Derna, a relentless sculptor of the underground metal stage, now scribes his profound admiration for the post-punk, alternative, and gothic musical realms.

Lovesick Plaything’s self-titled inaugural album unveils eight tracks that lay bare Derna’s reimagined creative direction, each piece a melancholic treatise on this new-found artistic landscape. The album stands as a stark reflective surface, inviting listeners to delve into the shadowed corners of their own inner psyche, encouraging a confrontation with those emotions frequently lost in the whirlwind of daily existence.

This endeavour embodies a melancholic ballet, a notable divergence from his past musical conquests, yet remains securely bound with the same dark fibers that characterize his oeuvre. Each resonating tone is steeped in a haunting concoction of desolation, a tribute to the solemn orchestra of loneliness and grief. Return To Dust, for instance, depicts a poignant journey towards inevitable oblivion; a self-reflective surrender to the inexorable march of time. Emphasizing ephemeral existence and the fading of self, it embodies a profound existential crisis against the backdrop of the unending cycle of life and death. The final plea indicates a yearning for companionship in life’s closing moments. Numb and Mechanised explores how self-suppression and mechanization for perceived altruism leads to an emotional disconnect. With sentiments of lost purpose and questioning worth, the lyrics speak of past recklessness, future challenges, and being part of an impersonal system.

While these musical pieces may not set the dance floor aflame, they serve as the ideal symphonic companions to a night of gloomy, thoughtful introspection. Imagine cradling a steaming cup of tea, as you lose yourself within the eerie depths of a Poe tale, all the while cocooned within the gentle embrace of a plush velvet throw.

Although Lovesick Plaything carves an untrodden path in Numinas’ artistic odyssey, it continues to resonate with the deeply personal and intimate. Each progression, each tempo, invites a deeper venture into the realm of self-reflection, a journey into the self that remains steadfast in its allegiance to the shadowy corridors of his musical saga.

Submerging itself into the depths of heartache, solitude, and melancholy, Lovesick Plaything reveals a striking deviation from Derna’s previous body of work. However, it sustains an intricate connection to the dark, emotional motifs that serve as a mirror, reflecting an ongoing journey of self-inquiry conducted through the universal language of rhythm and melody.
