[dropcap]Los[/dropcap] Angeles based post-punk outfit Second Still are back with a new stand alone digital single titled Walls. Channeling Head Over Heels era Cocteau Twins, this track is a stark departure from the primitive coldwave renderings that made up the band’s first EP, Early Forms. Originally written by Ryan (guitar) and Alex (bass) as an instrumental demo in 2013, the band restructured the song in May of this year to leave room for singer Suki San’s added vocal melodies. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris King (Cold Showers) in his home studio and Second Still’s rehearsal space in Los Angeles, “Walls” is a fresh new take on the iconic 4AD sound of dreamy goth-pop anthems. Reverb-heavy guitars and pitch-perfect vocal melodies draw you in while a hard-hitting drum machine and a steady bass line keep the groove underneath. Subtle yet sophisticated, the track washes over you in five minutes of unadulterated ethereal bliss.
Second Still are heading off to NYC for a run of three shows, including an August 20th performance at the first annual Nowhere To Run post-punk festival featuring bands such as post-punk heavyweights Belgrado (ES) and Crash Course In Science (PA), as well as an opening slot for Xeno & Oaklander on August 24th. Following their three-show stint in NYC, the band will return to LA to hunker down in the studio (again with Chris King) to formalize their newest material into a five-song EP.
