Jimmy Webb, the iconic stylist and shining star of the East Village, has passed away from lung cancer, age 62.
The warm and vibrant Webb was beloved to the NYC punk, goth and rock n’ roll scene as the chief supplier of alternative fashion and mother hen to the unique misfits of the city. Webb spent many years at Trash and Vaudeville, and opened the doors to his own hot pink emporium I NEED MORE. Part art project, part museum, part therapist office, and part art gallery, his contribution to the style and mood of the East Village scene remains unprecedented and unmatched. People made special trips just to see Jimmy, hear his tales, and drink in the energy of joy. Touring bands often sported I NEED MORE shirts onstage.
These photos were taken in late February 2020, when Webb gathered longtime friends Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry to his tiny shop to leave their hand and footprints in concrete. Many more loved ones joined in the fun. It had been Jimmy’s dream for years to immortalize his friends this way.
Webb’s infectious smile, joyous hugs, celebration of life, and his fierce love of music will be fondly remembered by all who crossed his path. Not only did he type in all caps, he thought in all caps. He gave in all caps. He loved in all caps. We will miss you, Jimmy.
