Following their recent appearance at The Cure’s 40th Anniversary concert in Hyde Park, New York post-punk revival heroes Interpol have premiered their video for “The Rover.”
The clip is directed by Gerardo Naranjo (“Narcos,” “Fear the Walking Dead”) and stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular “Rover.”
The video’s premiere reveals meta explanation of Moss-Bachrach’s mysterious cameo at Interpol’s recent press conference in Mexico City this past june, where “The Rover” culminates his adventure there by crashing said press conference.
The video is “the origin story of the character described in the song, the birth of a cult leader.” explains Paul Banks, “When we meet him he is partly unhinged. He’s a man on the verge, an artist subjected to great pressures, and beset with existential frustrations. A distracted hipster who enjoys psychedelics, let’s say.”
Marauder is the followup to the band’s 2014 anagram titled album El Pintor, out August 24th via Matador.
