“House of cards will fall, but ghosts will stay.”
German darkwave duo SIIE doesn’t simply produce melodies; they sculpt aural terrains that vacillate between the palpable and the dreamlike. With an ineffable aura of sophistication, veiled in an evening-like mystique, their post-punk compositions resonate with aficionados of the 1980s industrial music scene. Their pieces reverberate within the pulse-lit dance halls, delivering compelling four-on-the-floor beats as though hailing from an otherworldly domain.
The captivating charm of SIIE’s vocals seizes the listener’s attention, while the synthesizers, profound and resonant, and rhythms, keen as a blade’s edge, steer one through an aural voyage amid the hazy veils of evening.
The French lyrics to “5ème Avenue” describe figure that appears on the terrace of house of cards, likened to the juxtaposition of arsenic and caramel, hinting at a duality between a corroded mind and a neurotic body. Visions of ethereal dreams and parallel lives are conveyed, further underlined by the recurring contrast of poison and sweetness. The song captures a feeling of vertigo, of being on the edge; a sensation both thrilling…and perilous.
The video, directed by Lars Gottschlalk, is as mysterious and unsettling as their previous offering, À Travers. The band, obscured by masks, find themselves swallowed in the depths of a large confine, performing, it seems, solely for the skylight above. Many questions arise with their sinister presence. Where are they? Why are they brandishing smoke bombs?
One thing is for certain: their mission is to fill the dance floor!
Manta Recordings is delighted to welcome SIIE once again with their sophomore EP, ‘5ème Avenue‘. Demonstrating a flair for the avant-garde, SIIE’s EP radiates with veiled energies, reminiscent of a thick mist enveloping a dimly-lit dance hall. Their refined production approach introduces a gripping bass undertone, celestial percussive notes pulsating from the abyss, and resonant synthesizers that pair seamlessly with their elegant vocals, a nod to the Parisian nightlife.
Waltervelt, the distinguished Brazil-based musician known for his distinctive timbre, graces the EP with an exemplary remix reflecting his enduring rhythm and unrefined, pulsating intensity.
