Ships in the Night, aka the ethereal dream pop-laced project from Alethea Leventhal, has spent the last few years touring behind her celestial debut Myriologues, building a cult following across the US. In the same breath, Leventhal has also been crafting new material, building her oeuvre and expanding her sonic palate. With that in mind, we’re pleased to premiere the video for “Lost Times,” a brand-new Ships in the Night barn burner, just in time for Devil’s Night. Watch below:
The track itself is incorporates lush swells of synth, a steady 707-esque drum pattern, and and arpeggiated bass rhythm, nestled alongside Leventhal’s heavenly, yet soulful voice. The track has the feel of a beautifully understated italo track, sprinkled with just enough of Projekt Records’ trademark swirl to keep things balanced.
Leventhal has offered up some context on both the track and the video:
My new song “Lost Times” is electrifying and cinematic, with sweeping waves of synths and kinetic beats under haunting vocals. I’ve been making music and touring under the name Ships In The Night for the last few years, and I’m happy to say this latest track is entirely self-produced. The upcoming video for this song is surreal and ethereal, with a deep dose of the 80s, and glimpses through the veil between the worlds of darkness and light. It begins with the moonrise and ends with the break of day, and what transpires in between could be a dream sequence, or a glance into another world. To quote H.P. Lovecraft, “At night, when the objective world has slunk back into its cavern and left dreamers to their own, there come inspirations and capabilities impossible at any less magical and quiet hour.” It seems fitting for this time of year.
“Lost Times” is being issued as a standalone digital single, which can be purchased via Bandcamp and streamed through the usual channels. Click below to stream and purchase the track:
