Hailing from the pulsating heart of Dublin’s post-punk scene, Bean Sí have been carving out a niche for themselves since their inception in the twilight of 2021. Their discography, though brief, has already been met with critical acclaim, with their inaugural single ‘Nyctophobia’ resonating on the airwaves of NTS and Niallar9. The band’s live performances are a tempest of energy, earning them a reputation across the Emerald Isle for their electrifying stage presence.
Their sonic palette is a melange of darkwave, post-punk, and 80s synth-pop, and their latest offering, “Stuck In The Mud,” is a testament to this. Drawing from Industrial and EBM’s raw, mechanical heart, the track explores adolescent disquiet and the universal longing for acceptance. Director Miles Davis Murphy captures the frenetic energy of Bean Sí’s live performances in the accompanying music video, crafting a narrative that tips its hat to the eerie charm of 80s horror films.
“Stuck In The Mud is a fevered soundtrack of the night, feeling like a song that belongs on the soundtrack of E4’s Skins, (the spiritual precursor to Euphoria). The propulsive track features spectral synths that echo the sigh of a nocturnal cityscape, punctuated by the relentless heartbeat of drum machines and the raw, punk-infused vocals that eventually give way to a dance-driven techno rhythm.
The video is an intoxicating visual narrative, with a protagonist entranced by the band, bathed in the ethereal blue glow of a vintage color TV. This segues into a scene that juxtaposes the clandestine consumption of illicit substances at a nightclub with a communion ceremony.
