Temple of Angels has joined forces with Run For Cover Records, and they have made their collaboration official by announcing the first release of their partnership – their debut album, “Endless Pursuit,” set to be unleashed on July 14th. In this impressive record, the Austin, TX-based four-piece has brilliantly captured the most dazzling and enthralling elements of dream pop, while still showcasing their hook-filled songwriting skills.

To mark the occasion, Temple of Angels has revealed the lead single from “Endless Pursuit,” entitled “Tangled In Joy.” The track features chiming guitars and a haunting atmosphere that envelops the listener in melody and mood, accompanied by the soaring voice of lead singer, Bre Morell.

With “Tangled In Joy,” Temple of Angels showcases their brightest and catchiest side, an avalanche of jangling guitar chords and Morell’s sweet vocals that swell and cascade over each other. As with the other tracks on the record, the band aimed to limit the use of effects to further distance themselves from being labeled as shoegaze. Tangled In Joy is bold and sharp; willing to step out of the shadows to assert its own identity.

The debut full-length album by Temple of Angels, “Endless Pursuit,” is an impressive and towering work of gothic beauty that signals a dazzling arrival. This release, shaped by the ghosts of the past and the wonder of the present, showcases dream pop at its most striking, utilizing the genre’s haze and beauty not to obscure songs until they become incomprehensible, but rather to capture the ephemeral wonder of new love while emphasizing the confusion and disorientation that comes with loss.

Throughout the album, Morell grapples with the loss of a parent and the deeply unsettling impact it has had on her life. As she puts it, “I began to have extremely vivid nightmares that relived certain experiences with my mother, which began to take over my life, trapping me in that trauma.” These dreams are filled with “a constant feeling that something or someone so essential to you is missing, home doesn’t feel like home anymore, and something about this world just feels off now.”

“Endless Pursuit” isn’t just a portrait of sorrow and anguish, however. “Sometimes a beautiful dream will sneak in past the nightmares, which inspire a lot of my writing as well, specifically these dreams I had as a teenager that took place in a past or future life in some kind of parallel universe,” Morell admits. “I’ve been thinking about those dreams for 16+ years, and they still consume me.” With its haunting melodies and powerful emotions, “Endless Pursuit” is a remarkable achievement that deserves to be heard by all.

In 2017, Temple of Angels emerged from the Texas punk and hardcore scene, driven by a desire to create music that evokes the atmospheric sounds of Cocteau Twins, The Cure, and The Sundays. Comprised of Avery Burton (guitar/vocals), Patrick Todd (drums/vocals), and Cole Tucker (guitar), the trio began their exploration into dreamier, moodier music. As their sound developed, they brought in the captivating Bre Morell (vocals) to complete their lineup as lead singer.

Through a kaleidoscope of EPs and singles, the band’s celestial melodies evolved, culminating in the mesmerizing opus, Endless Pursuit. Recorded under the watchful eyes of Colin Knight (Death Bells, Fury, Leisure World) and Phillip Odom (Ceremony, Militarie Gun, Portrayal of Guilt) and mastered by the adept Will Yip (Turnover, Citizen, Title Fight), the album promises a transcendent experience that elevates through cathartic bliss, despite the tumultuous trials that birthed its core.

Endless Pursuit is out on the 14th of July, 2023.
