Man Punches Morrissey On-Stage During Concert Last Night in San Diego

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Punched Me

Last night, Morrissey was allegedly attacked onstage by a concert attendee during his gig at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego last night.

The concert ended early when fans rushed the stage while Morrissey was singing “Every Day Is Like Sunday”. The incident, which was filmed, shows at around the 17 second mark, a man grabbing and punching the famed Mancunian singer as he turns away. Security then quickly intervene, subduing the man while dragging him away in a headlock.

Watch below:

Despite the fact that the video clearly shows the man’s hand striking his face, Morrissey has followed up a report by Pitchfork of the incident with a Facebook post denying that the man had attacked him, or intentionally struck him, through a statement made by via Peter Katsis.

“Nobody tried to punch M last night. Morrissey’s fans are not malicious. The fans were simply doing what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him. The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most, so security had to do their job and subdue the fan. That’s all it was. In the end no one was hurt, and no one was arrested.” – Peter Katsis

Update:

Morrissey fan Carlos Rodriguez , the man who had seemingly punched Morrissey by accidentally striking his face, has clarified that it was unintentional side effect due his excitement from storming the stage, while conceding that it indeed looked bad.

“Thank you for clearing this up. I admit it looks bad but the momentum to get up did look as if it was aggressive. I hugged him, Moz laughed and i was headlocked. End of story. I have nothing but love for El Jefe! “
