Deutschland’s Dark Synth Trio Rue Oberkampf Finds Change in the “Negativraum”

Munich-Based Dark Synth Trio Rue Oberkampf have followed up their debut LP‚ Christophe-Philippe, with their video for “Negativraum”, a song that was created during the lockdown of summer of 2020, whose music and lyrics represent the lost and new possibilities in life, expectations, new realities, or also the “other” reality. Like the negative space in photography as the song title’s translation suggests, this negative space always has been there, but perhaps just not in the focus.

Indicating the need for adaptation and change, the final sentence of the lyrics suggests:

“but the future is different now”.

The video itself for the song is a striking bit of cinematic art, finding the band working with a professional film team this time, across different locations, with a scripted storyline, and several actors.

On “Negativraum”, Rue Oberkampf worked with their friend and Director Martina Chamrad, and Director of Photography Jens Schaffner and their team filming spanning four days in six different locations in Augsburg and in/around their hometown of Passau.
