Where does the mysterious midpoint between bliss and darkness lie? Where is the horizon line between hope and despair? We are about to find out as Antipole & Paris Alexander debut “Midnight Shadows, their new single and video off their upcoming album, Crystalline, out May 12th. The dark disco beats of “Crystalline” churn through with the exciting juxtaposition of grim, grimy synths and dreamy guitars, lulling listeners into its hypnotic sound.
Antipole, the moniker of Norwegian guitarist Karl Morten Dahl, is a master of evocative guitar, mixing these psychedelic elements with mesmerizing synthesizers and drum machines. Paris Alexander, the lyricist for this track, anchors and infuses the sounds with philosophical poetry. “I have been inspired to write lyrics that I am proud of and feel like this album is a natural progression, building on what we have done together thus far,” says Alexander.
The track was recorded at AGV63, Trondheim, Norway and Blue Door Studio in Brighton, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Paris Alexander at Blue Door Studio. “Crystalline” is available for pre-order (vinyl/CD/digital) here.
Having worked closely together since 2017, Antipole & Paris Alexander have already released Northern Flux (2017) and Radial Glare (2019) to critical acclaim. The duo took a step aside to do other things the last few years: Antipole released the collaboration album A Haunted Place (2021) with UK artist Kill Shelter, while Paris Alexander released his solo album “Renaissance” (2021).
Antipole with Paris Alexander+Eirene will perform at this year’s Wave Gotik Treffen Festival (Volkspalast / Kuppelhalle) in Leipzig on May 28th.
