Columbus, Ohio darkwave outfit Vague Allure, comprised of composer D. Kieffer and lyricist/vocalist J. Rose, announces their first single “Scratch” from their debut EP Eclipse. True to the title, Vague Allure conjures a melodic experience of light and shadow within this composition.
Sculpted from a shared interest in 80’s styled post-punk, goth, shoegaze, and synthesizers, the track utilizes vintage-styled drum machines, thundering synth bass-lines, and shimmering, neon-drenched guitar with fiery lyrics of empowerment, mystery, loss, and passion.
The melancholy, wistful song is beautifully illustrated with a glitch-laden video clip directed by Wesley Morris and filmed by Julie Rose. It shows a performance in a retro-futuristic setting, igniting nostalgia yet lingering with trepidation for the future.
