Box and the Twins Return in Kaleidoscopic Reverie with “The First Dream”

Almost exactly three years after the release of their debut album, Cologne´s dark pop duo Box and the Twins have returned with the first single from their new album Zerfall, which will be out on October 31st via Synth Religion.

The video for “The First Dream“, self-produced is a 6-minute visceral experience, in which the estrangement of the kaleidoscope-like visuals transcends into a new form of intimacy.

In this artificial room, a Freudian white wall set’s the viewer’s mind as a sort of tabula rasa, where the eyes cast their own personal musical Rorschach test during this beautiful fever-dream.

Watch the video below:

Box and the Twin’s new album Zerfall features the subtitle 10 Songs of Pain and Boredom, which refers to the Arthur Schopenhauer quote, stating that these two are the true enemies of human happiness.

“The First Dream” picks up on this duality, where the further away from the one you get, the closer you drift towards the other—which is echoed in this balance between boundaries and dissolution.

This dualism is audible as well as visual through the hypnotic and disconcerting bass synth intro that imbues the dark vocals and percussion with a sense of lingering unease that spirals around gossamer sounds of strings and guitars that resonate throughout the track like fireflies in a cave.

Zerfall is produced by Josia Mazzaschi at the Cave Studio, L.A. and mastered by Hélène de Thoury, with the composition of dark electronics, melancholic guitars and box´s haunting voice, altogether promising the sonic textures of an eternal autumn.

Taken from the Album “Zerfall”, out on Synth Religion 31.10.2019.
