Bernard Sumner autobiography “Chapter And Verse (New Order, Joy Division And Me)” due out in September

New Order singer Bernard Sumner has confirmed details of his upcoming autobiography.

It had been announced in back in June 2013 that Sumner had signed a deal to publish his memoirs, and Chapter And Verse (New Order, Joy Division And Me) will be published by Transworld on September 25 of this year.

[pullquote]Chapter and Verse includes a vivid and illuminating account of Bernard’s Salford childhood, the early days of Joy Division, the band’s enormous critical and popular success, and the subsequent tragic death of Ian Curtis. Bernard describes the formation of New Order, takes us behind the scenes at the birth of classics such as ‘Blue Monday’ and gives his first-hand account of the ecstasy and the agony of the Haçienda days.[/pullquote]

The book is Sumner’s first, seemingly written in response to those published by New Order’s estranged former bassist Peter Hook, the memoirs. 2009’s How Not To Run A Club  (Hooky’s account of the Hacienda), and 2013’s Unknown Pleasures (documenting his time in Joy Division). Despite the timing, Sumner has stated he is wary of writing about New Order because [pullquote]“there’s so much bitterness. You don’t want it to become a bitchfest.”[/pullquote]
