Barcelona Post-Punk Outfit Belgrado Return with their Expressionist Video for “Boixar”

For the first time in seven years, Belgrado have announced their return with a brand new album, led with the sensuous single and accompanying video “Boixar”. The hypnotic Polish language vocals of Patrycja Proniewska (Fatamorgana) drive this quirky and space-age coldwave track, evolving from a sound that a decade ago drew comparisons to Xmal Deutschland with the smash hit single “Jeszcze Raz,” into an avant-garde post-punk reverie.

‘Boixar” is pure aural mesmerism with its lyrical guitar and synth line strongly bolstering Patrycja’s beguiling, ethereal voice. For a sonic switch, the band’s drummer (and renowned graphic designer) Jonathan Sirit plays synths on this track.

Brimming with narrative atmosphere, “Boixar” was conceived in the medieval Catalan village of the same name in the midst of a thunderstorm, says the band.

The accompanying video for the song was directed and edited by the group’s former bassist, Renzo Narvaez.  It has strong visual ties to the work of Anton Corbijn and Fritz Lang, as well as the experimental photography and design sense from the 1920s-30s era of the Bauhaus school. A strong German Expressionist-meets-film noir vibe is felt throughout, highlighted with a gorgeous monochromatic scheme accentuating the minimalism of the track. It works well with the transcendent nature of Proniewska’s vocals.

The forthcoming album, Intra Apogeum, is set to drop at the end of April via La Vida Es Un Mus. You will be able to pre-order Friday.

Barcelona-based but with a Venezuelan, Polish, and British membership, Belgrado burst onto the scene in 2010, touring the world over multiple times and delivering three LPs. The band are currently in the process of booking live shows all over Europe and Latin America this year to support the release of their album. Belgrado will be appearing at this year’s Grauzone Festival.
