Andy Fletcher Remembered by Depeche Mode at “Memento Mori” Tour Kickoff — See the Setlist and Video

Depeche Mode descended onto the Sacramento stage on Thursday night, commencing the first show of their colossal Memento Mori tour. The band formed in Basildon four decades ago delivered a 23-song odyssey that unveiled five tracks from their new album, resurrected a song dormant for over a decade, and paid homage to their fallen comrade, Andy Fletcher.

Dave Gahan and Martin Gore set the mood of the evening with both of Memento Mori’s opening tracks, “My Cosmos Is Mine” and “Wagging Tongue,” before diving into a maelstrom of ’90s gems, including “It’s No Good,” “Walking in My Shoes,” “Sister of Night,” and “In Your Room.” The duo didn’t venture too deep into their early ’80s roots, with only a few pre-Black Celebration anthems such as “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “Everything Counts” making the cut.

Gore’s traditional two-song serenade featured a revival of “A Question of Lust,” untouched since 2017 and last played by the full band in 2013, as well as the Memento Mori debut of  “Soul With Me.” During the encore, Gahan and Gore joined forces for a haunting rendition of Violator’s “Waiting for the Night,” a track unheard live since 2009.

In a poignant tribute to their lost brother Fletcher, who succumbed to an aortic dissection last year, the surviving duo performed “World in My Eyes,” one of his favorite Depeche Mode songs. Emotive images of Fletcher loomed on the screen behind them, with Gahan honoring him as “our friend, Andrew Fletcher” at the song’s close.

The tour rolls on to San Jose, California, on Saturday, marking the second of 10 North American stops before the band crosses the Atlantic for an extensive European leg running through August. A second, lengthier North American run commences in September, culminating in a four-night finale in Los Angeles.

Below, you’ll find the full setlist, a collection of videos, and the rest of the itinerary for Depeche Mode’s monumental tour.
