Lay me on a pyre of moss
For you’ve built up this temple of bone
An alter, made of blood and steel
Drenched in the sons of fallen empires
Forever dead with me
We mourn because we believe in endings, yet what is truly gone was never ours to hold. Death is not a vanishing act, but a transformation…like waves retreating from the shore, only to return in another form. The ones we lose are not lost; they are woven into the fabric of our being, like echoes that never quite fade. We grieve as if love can be severed, yet love, like energy, cannot be destroyed. What is dead can never die, for it lives on in memory, in sensation, in the quiet spaces where we still listen.
Bound by devotion and drenched in loss, Vancouver goth outfit H.Ä.L.T. conjures a ritual of love and death entwined with their latest single FOREVER DEAD, from their upcoming album to follow their self-titled 2022 debut—a temple built of bone, an altar forged in sorrow, where devotion lingers beyond life itself. The weight of mourning presses heavy, yet the bond remains unbroken—an eternal vow whispered to the tide. In the glow of the moon, among the ruins of fallen empires, love and death blur, forever locked in a fate that refuses to fade. There are no happy endings because nothing ends.
Forever Dead barrels forward with a frantic energy that recalls early Siouxsie, Lene Lovich, and Nina Hagen, fused with the biting urgency of the Buzzcocks. Yelping, snarling vocals tear through a storm of serrated post-punk guitars and basslines that tremble like tectonic plates. The accompanying video, helmed by Megan Nicols and Phaelan Kuehne, juxtaposes the raw sprawl of nature against the stark imposition of Brutalist architecture: organic chaos clashing with concrete certainty. The band shifts between a forest pilgrimage and the faceless structures of progress, before descending into the fevered delirium of an underground club, where movement resists stillness.
