Following his 14 date residency on Broadway, Morrissey is recruiting NYC post-punk revival act Interpol to embark on a 14-date U.S. tour this September and October in support of his upcoming covers album California Son.
The tour opens September 5 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., and closes out on October 6th Pechanga Arena in San Diego.
Tickets go on-sale for those dates begins 10 a.m. local time Friday.
Morrissey’s new album California Son features guest musicians joining the mancunian singer for covers of material by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Phil Ochs, Jobraith and more.
Just this week Moz premiered his cover of The 5th Dimension’s “Wedding Bell Blues” with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and The Regrettes’ Lydia Night.
Despite fan backlash, Armstrong wrote enthusiastically in an Instagram post about his collaboration with Morrissey stating:
“Hey y’all! I had the honour of sharing a microphone with Morrissey on a song. Unreal! Thank you Morrissey! You are truly a legend.”
Broken Social Scene’s Ariel Engle, who is also featured on California Son, told The Guardian that she had been ignorant of Morrissey’s maligned political opinions and only learned of his controversial views when a friend challenged her about working with him via email:
“It’s a very weak argument to claim ignorance but it is my argument. It’s not an excuse but it happens to be the truth.”
“The inflammatory things he says are not my politics. I think he’s completely out of line. I grew up around multiculturalism and I am the product of multiculturalism and immigration. I feel like I’ve been had, but it’s my fault.”
